Basics to Know About MX Linux (KDE)

There are a ton of different choices when you come to Linux and it can be pretty overwhelming at first.

In the “What is Linux Even?” link above, we talk about how to make sense of the variation in Linux distributions, and why this is important to understand.

We decided to move to MX with KDE as our default Linux for our more powerful computers because KDE looks great and has a lot of customization as a desktop environment, and MX has proven to be a really stable operating system in our personal use.

For our more limited computers we’ve moved to using MX with the XFCE desktop environment which runs a bit lighter.

MX Tour

One great way to start getting to know your MX Linux computer is to take the MX Tour. You can find this by clicking the Application Menu at the bottom left of your screen, typing MX Tour into the search box, then clicking no the MX Tour application.

The tour covers some of the same comment we’ve typed out in this guide, but hopefully both perspectives are helpful. If there’s a contradiction in the information, it’s probably safe to assume that the MX folks know better than us. 😄
