This video broadly talks about where Windows Defender is good, and where it really lacks. We’ve chosen to go with Windows Defender as our default on outgoing computers because most people nowadays have a consistent internet connection, and Windows Defender is a lot better while connected to Microsoft servers. Secondly, it’s included in Windows, so it doesn’t tether our clients to a subscription service that they may not need right from the start.

This video shows more specifics on how Windows Defender works pretty great while you’re connected to the internet, but only about 60% effectively if you’re not connected. If you’re going to be offline quite a bit and still copying files to your computer or opening emails with potentially sketchy attachments, it may be worthwhile to pay for an alternate anti-malware software.
