Pay attention to the “Key Definitions” at the top of this list if the symbols used are confusing.
Some highlights that many people could find useful are:
- The “Super” key is found on most keyboards between Ctrl and Alt on the bottom left. This may have the Windows logo on it.
- Using the Launcher - tapping the Super key will bring up a search box in the middle of your screen
- When Launcher comes up, you can type to search for files or programs. This might be quicker than searching through the Application menu at the top left before opening a program.
- You can also automatically use this as a calculator. You can type = followed immediately by an equation to get an answer.
- Examples: =4+2 or =100*(8-2)
- Super + Tab = Flip through open programs each time you hit Tab. Holding Super down, then tapping the Tab button is the best way to do this.
- Super + Ctrl + (Left or Right Arrow Key) = will snap the currently active window to the left or right of your screen, automatically taking up 50% of the space.
- Super + Esc = will lock your computer so that the password is needed again to get back in.
Finally, something I’ve never seen on Windows:
- Super + (Left click) + (Drag) can be used anywhere on a window (not just on a title bar) to move the window around.
- Super + (Right click) + (Drag) can be used anywhere on a window to resize the dimensions without having to find the very edge of the window which can be a finicky process.
