Some main reasons why Linux is naturally more secure than Windows or MacOS:

• Linux has far less of the home computing market share, so it isn’t currently any kind of a priority for hackers.
• Linux won’t have the same potential of backdoor access for companies and government intelligence agencies built in, or personal information sent out to corporations.
• Linux is not a cookie cutter system. If there’s malware that exploits a security flaw, it will only affect a smaller portion of Linux users.

There’s some debate for whether you are better off with an antivirus program on Linux or not. We mostly agree with the idea that an antivirus by its very nature has to reach into every area of your computer to monitor things, which is a compromise of the natural security and partitioning of the Linux system.
