As you may already know, one of the streamlined ways Linux is fantastic is that all software updates are included in your system update package!

Yep. That means that you’re not being told by every program when there’s new updates, it just gets added to your queue, so to speak.

On the panel at the bottom of your screen, you’ll see the Pop!_Shop which looks like this. The red indicator with the number 20 in this case indicates that there are 20 updates available.

When you open the Pop!_Shop, you’ll see a catalogue of featured programs that might interest you. At the top near point #1 in the image below, you’ll see a button where you can view all installed programs (as well as the updates that are queued up for download). I wanted to point out #2 in the image there because anytime the shop is processing information, it’ll have that icon of a small circle rotating within a larger circle. Point #3 is a search bar where you can look for other applications that aren’t in the featured catalogue on the main page. There’s lots to explore!

If you click on that Installed button near the top, you’ll see an Update All button

As each item downloads, you’ll see a little progress line along the bottom like this:

While it’s downloading and installing all your updates, you’re free to continue using your computer. Another thing about Linux is that most of the time you will not have to restart your entire computer after updates are finished. You will likely just have to restart programs that have been updated.

You can now explore the Pop!_Shop to see if there is any other software you might be interested in.
